The match line-up is the squad for one particular game: who starts, who is on the bench, who is in goal and under which numbers. The players come from the tournament application, not from the whole team.
A coach edits his own team only. The half of the screen with the opponent opens read-only — that is not a fault.
How to open it
Find the match in the list, open it and choose Match Application from the ⋮ menu. The screen is called Team Lineups. At the top is the switch between your team and the opponent, below it the list of players.
Where the players come from
Under the team switch it says Source — and that is the most useful line on the screen. It explains why these particular people are in the list. The app takes the first of three that applies:
| Source | What it means |
|---|---|
| Match Application | The line-up for this game has already been built — you are looking at it |
| Tournament Application | There is no line-up yet, so everyone cleared for the tournament is shown. The normal state before the first game |
| Team Players | There is no tournament application — the whole squad is shown. That happens with friendlies outside a tournament |
Seeing extra people in the list while it says «Source: Tournament Application» means the line-up has not been built yet and the app is simply showing everyone cleared. Build the line-up and the source changes.
Seeing «Source: Team Players» in a tournament match means the team has no tournament application. That is worth fixing: see «The team's tournament application».
Editing mode
While you are only looking, the line-up cannot be changed. Tap the pencil in the header — the screen switches to Team Lineups - Editing and controls appear next to the players.
Two reasons, both worth sorting out in advance. First: your account is not of the Coach type — rights over the line-up are tied to it. Second: you are not listed as a coach of this team. The match organizer can edit both line-ups, a coach only his own.
Starters, substitutes, numbers
In editing mode the players are split into two lists:
- Starting Lineup — on the pitch from the first minute;
- Substitutes — on the bench.
A player moves between them by tapping his card. The number in brackets next to each heading shows how many people are in that list — handy so you do not have to count by hand.
The same place is where the Player Number in Match is set: the app asks you to pick the number the player will wear in this match. It is the number for this game only and may differ from his permanent one — if that shirt is taken, for instance.
The line-up screen has a Create player button: a card can be created on the spot when a newcomer turns up for the game. But the action is not temporary — once saved, the app itself:
- adds the player to the team, with the joining date set to the tournament start date rather than today;
- enters him into the tournament application, if the match belongs to a tournament;
- puts him into the starting line-up of this match, not on the bench.
So a single tap changes three lists at once. Nothing needs finishing off after the match — but this is not a button for «just trying it out» either: an unwanted player will have to be taken out of the team and the application by hand.
Goalkeepers
Goalkeepers have a tab of their own, and it works differently: a keeper is recorded from a minute. It is not «who is our goalkeeper» but «who was in goal starting from minute N».
So a change of keeper during the game is entered as a second row with its own minute — and the goals conceded are then split between them correctly.
Players outside the application
If somebody in the line-up is not in the tournament application, the app puts him in a block of his own: Players absent from tournament application or Players added by mistake, with a count of how many there are.
It is a hint, not a block: the match can still be played. But in a tournament run by the rules such a player is grounds for a protest from the opponent, so the block is worth clearing before the game rather than after.
A player can be in the tournament application and still land in this block if his date of entry is later than the date of the match. The app says so directly: «The date of entry into the tournament application is higher than the date of the match». Fix the date in the tournament application.
Saving and printing
Changes are committed with Save. Next to it is Print — a printed line-up comes in handy for the referee before the game.
No minimum number of players, no mandatory goalkeeper: a match can be started with an empty line-up. The No goalkeeper marker in the match list is a hint and a filter, not a block. Count the players yourself.
Troubleshooting
The list of players is not what I expected
Look at the Source line — it explains where the list came from. Most often it is «Tournament Application»: the line-up has not been built yet.
The player I need is not in the list
He is not in the tournament application, or his date of entry is later than the date of the match. Both are fixed in the tournament application.
I cannot edit the line-up
The profile type is not «Coach», or you are not a coach of this team. The second is solved by an invitation from the team owner or a request for access.
I can only edit my half of the screen
That is how it should be. The opponent's line-up is run by their coach or by the match organizer.
I saved the line-up but it is not showing in the match
Check that you were saving the line-up of this match and of your own team: the screen switches between the teams, and it is easy to edit the wrong half.
What happens to the match after that is in «Running a match».
