The tournament application is the list of the team's players cleared for one particular tournament. Every tournament has its own. The match line-up is built out of it, so a player who is not in the tournament application will not make it into a match.
The easiest thing to get wrong here is the dates. Every player has a date of entry into the application, and it decides which matches he can play at all.
Why a separate list when there is already a squad
Because they are different things. Hawks 2014 may have thirty people in the club — everyone who has ever trained with them. Eighteen travel to a given tournament: the competition has its own limits on age and numbers, somebody is injured, somebody is over age.
So the team is «all of ours», and the tournament application is «ours for this tournament». The same player can be in the application for the autumn tournament and out of the spring one while staying in the team throughout.
How to open it
The application belongs to the tournament: open the tournament, go to the participants and find your team — its tournament application opens from there. If there is no application yet, the app offers Create a tournament application: tap it and an empty list appears, ready for players.
The screen is split in two: Current roster — who is in the application now — and History — what happened to it earlier.
Adding players
The Add players to the application button opens the list of your team's players with checkboxes. Tick those who are going and confirm — the app asks you to pick the date of entry and reports «The player has been added to the tournament application».
Players can be added mid-tournament too — a newcomer joining the team halfway through the season, for instance. That is exactly when the date of entry matters; see below.
Then he is not in the team itself. Add him to the team first — with the Invite player link from the team card — and only then will he show up in the list for the application.
Dates are the main thing here
Every row of the application carries a date of entry and, if the player has left, a date of exclusion. The app treats the player as cleared between those dates and not cleared outside them.
| Situation | Which date to set |
|---|---|
| Entering the squad before the tournament starts | The starting date of the tournament or earlier — then the player is available in every match |
| A newcomer joined halfway through | The day from which the rules allow him to play |
| You forgot to enter a player who has already played | A date no later than that match, otherwise the line-up will be built with a warning |
This is the warning you get while building a line-up if you added a player after the fact and left today's date. Formally he is in the application, but not as of match day. The fix is to change the date of entry: the application has a separate action for it.
Excluding a player
Exclude players means «this player no longer plays for us in this tournament». The app asks you to Select the date of exclusion from the tournament application: from that day he is not in the application, and everything he managed to play before it stays — matches, goals, cards, statistics.
This is the normal way to take somebody out of an application. Use it almost every time.
Deleting a player
Remove players means «he was never in the application at all». It is for one case only: the player was added by mistake — the wrong person, or the wrong team.
The app guards against carelessness and, before deleting, checks whether the player left any trace in the tournament:
- Found player events in matches — deletion is not possible. The app says outright that the player cannot be removed because he has events added in matches of this tournament. Here only exclusion by date will do.
- Match applications found with a player (N) — the list expands and shows exactly which matches he was named for. If he has no events, a Remove player from match applications button appears next to it: it clears him out of those line-ups, after which deleting him from the tournament application becomes possible.
Exclude — the history is kept, the player was there and played. Delete — no trace is left, as if he had never been entered. If the person actually played for the team, deleting him distorts the tournament statistics, which is why the app will not do it quietly.
There is also Remove archived players from the application — a one-off clean-up when cards of long-unused players have found their way into the application.
The roster history
The History section shows who entered the application and when, and who left it. This is not decoration: when a dispute about a player's eligibility for a particular match comes up, the history is the only way to prove he was entered in time.
Printing and importing
Print application prepares a paper version for the referee or the credentials committee, with the squad as it stands.
The same menu holds Import data and Deleting imported players — loading a squad from a table. That is normally used by the organizer when entering participants in bulk; for your own team it is simpler to add players by hand.
Troubleshooting
A player is missing when I build the match line-up
Check in order: is he in the tournament application? If he is — what is his date of entry? It must not be later than the date of the match.
It will not let me delete a player
That is by design: he has events in matches of the tournament. Use exclusion by date — it keeps both what he played and the statistics intact.
A player left the team mid-tournament
Exclude him from the tournament application with the date he left. Removing him from the team itself is a separate action in the team card.
There is no application at all
Tap Create a tournament application. If the button is not there, check that the team has really been accepted into the tournament and that you are its coach.
Next comes «The match line-up», where a line-up for one particular game is built out of this application.
